Corporations, foundations, governments, and individuals can contribute to the NLERF and invest in a net zero future. There are two investment pathways which are described below.
On April 3, 2024 the Newfoundland and Labrador Emissions Reduction Fund (NLERF) was registered as an eligible compliance mechanism by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) under the Clean Fuels Regulations. Regulated primary fuel suppliers in Canada may choose to contribute up to 10% of their annual carbon intensity reduction requirements to emissions reduction funds like the NLERF.
Contributions made to this fund are invested into projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, advancing climate action while helping industry meet their regulatory requirements.
The NLERF is operated by econext. More information on the fund can be found here.
Primary fuel suppliers are encouraged to contact the NLERF at emissionsreductions@nlerf.ca with their questions and interest.
Newfoundland and Labrador Emissions Reductions is a registered charity (BN: 702824756 RR 0001) approved by the Canada Revenue Agency on January 2026.
Donations made to this fund are invested to advance education by conducting and/or funding research related to challenges associated with, and possible solutions to, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Newfoundland and Labrador. The objective of this fund is to de-risk and accelerate Newfoundland and Labrador’s pursuit of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050.
Day-to-day operations of the fund are supported by econext.
